A new campaign that sets the tone for the City’s environmental and sustainability policies.

Ewa Development Plan (DP) 5-Year Review (pdf)
This plan is one of eight long-range regional plans required by City Charter. DPs describe the desired character and significant natural, scenic and cultural resources of the region. They serve as a policy guide for more detailed zoning and other regulations, and guide public and private investment decisions.

East Honolulu Sustainable Communities Plan (SCP) 5-Year Review (pdf)
Some development plans are titled, “sustainable communities plans”. This one stretches from Hawaii Kai to Kahala. Its 5-year review is underway, evaluating the current vision statement for the region, its principles and guidelines, and implementation strategies.

Rural SCP 5-Year Reviews (pdf)
By the end of 2006, the department expects to start the 5-year review of the regional plans for Koolauloa (Kahuku to Ka’a’awa), Koolaupoko (Kualoa to Waimanalo), Waianae, and North Shore. As areas designated as rural, attention is focused on protection of rural character and environmental resources.

Ala Moana-Sheridan Community Plan (pdf)
This is a community-based plan for the area roughly behind Ala Moana Park to King Street. It defines the community’s preferred identity, and addresses the area’s social, economic, physical and transportation issues.

Kahaluu Community Master Plan (pdf)
Requested by the community, this plan will provide general design guidance for this rural area. Having defined its desired community values and resources in the first part of the study, the community is now identifying and prioritizing key improvement projects, including transportation changes and physical design preferences.

Makaha Special Area Plan (pdf)
Required by the Waianae Sustainable Communities Plan, this plan focuses on the future of Makaha Valley, a rural area, but with vacant land zoned land for more residential and resort use. Infrastructure systems are inadequate, and the community has a strong desire to retain the rural character of Makaha, including protection of the mauka watershed and natural stream banks and waterways.
