“We have the largest population between North America and New Zealand, but are nonetheless a fragile island society with sharply limited resources. We have unique cultural traditions and a unique environment.”

Sustainable Environment
Hawai‘i is a marvel of natural beauty and resources. Our skies are clean, our drinking water is among the best in the world and oceans, beaches, forests and mountains make our Islands one of the best places to live in the world.
It is our collective responsibility to safeguard these resources for our children and grandchildren.
In creating a sustainable environment, Hawai‘i 2050 looks to address the appropriate and long-range plans and public use relating to water, land use (including housing and development), energy, food production, waste, air, pollution, and environmental quality.
